Thompson Construction Group, Inc. Celebrates Ribbon Cutting of 130,000-Square-Foot Fabrication Facility in Sumter

SUMTER, S.C. (February 23, 2026) — Last week, Thompson Construction Group, Inc. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new 130,000-square-foot fabrication facility in Sumter, expanding the company’s capabilities and positioning it for continued growth in the energy and industrial sectors.

The new facility consolidates the company’s Fabrication Shop, Tool Room, and Hydro Consulting Maintenance Services (HCMS) into one centralized location. Company leaders said the integration of these operations will improve efficiency, strengthen quality control, and create capacity for future expansion.

“This investment reflects our confidence in Sumter and in the opportunities ahead,” said Greg Thompson, CEO of Thompson Construction Group. “By bringing these services together under one roof, we are improving coordination and positioning ourselves to meet growing demand in hydro modernization, energy and industrial markets.”

Mayor David Merchant and Sumter Economic Development President Jay Schwedler attended the ceremony, along with representatives from Dillion Supply, TEC Rental, Penn Tool, and Dominion Energy. Fifth-grade students from Liberty STEAM Charter School also toured the facility as part of the event.

“We are especially proud to have students here today,” Thompson said. “They represent the future workforce of our community. We hope seeing this facility sparks interest in careers in construction, fabrication, engineering, and the skilled trades.”

Thompson Construction Group also recognized its internal project management team — Tommy Pilsbury, McKinley Grooms and Taylor Daylami — for leading the development of the new facility from concept through completion.

The expansion supports increasing demand across the Southeast for infrastructure tied to hydroelectric modernization, power generation, and advanced manufacturing. Company leaders said the new fabrication shop enhances Thompson’s ability to deliver complex, high-quality work while continuing to invest in its workforce, and the Sumter community.

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is headquartered in Sumter and provides construction, fabrication, and maintenance services across the United States.
